To provide remote pilot licence (RePL) training, you'll need to hold a remotely piloted aircraft operator's certificate (ReOC) that authorises remote pilot training.
Steps to become a training provider
-
Read the information provided
- Part 101 (Unmanned Aircraft and Rockets) Manual of Standards 2019
- Advisory Circular AC 101-01 – Remotely piloted aircraft systems – licencing and operations
The documents cover:
- how to apply to conduct training
- how to create student and instructor course and assessment material
- sample training syllabus
- sample resources
- checklists.
-
Request a pre-application meeting
If you are applying for the first time to add RePL or medium RPA (between 25 kg and 150 kg) training you should request a pre-application meeting. The meeting provides a brief overview of the application process and allows you to discuss pre-submitted questions with us about your training submission.
This pre-application meeting lasts up to 30 minutes. We are required to charge $160 per hour for pre-application meetings over 30 minutes duration. It will be by video or by phone.
Request a pre-application meeting using our online enquiry form.
-
Develop your training materials
Refer to:
- Chapter 2 of the Part 101 Manual of Standards
Make sure your training meets the required standards.
-
Apply for a remotely piloted aircraft operator’s certificate (ReOC)
Apply for an initial remotely piloted aircraft operator's certificate (ReOC) or vary your existing ReOC. You’ll need to nominate a chief remote instructor (CRI) in addition to your chief remote pilot (CRP). Your CRI will need to meet the requirements outlined in the Part 101 Manual of Standards.
You must submit a complete application. Please refer to the application for RePL training checklist in:
AC 101-01 Remotely piloted aircraft systems - licensing and operations (PDF, 1.41 MB) Annex A to AC 101-01 - Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) Training Course - CASA Guidance (PDF, 1.87 MB)Incomplete applications won't be considered.
Once approved by us, you can provide RePL course training with the RPA types and categories you applied for. You can find your ReOC details listed on our website as a certified RePL training provider.
Training standards
The training must meet standards identified in chapter 2 of the Part 101 Manual of Standards. This makes sure that all trainers deliver standardised and high-quality training that covers:
- the relevant aeronautical knowledge standards
- the relevant practical competency standards
- an aeronautical knowledge exam
- flight testing
- administrative requirements.
Vary your training privileges
Existing training organisations may add or remove training privileges by applying for a variation to your existing remotely piloted aircraft operator’s certificate.
You must submit a complete application. Please refer to the application for RePL training checklist in:
If you need to change your CRI, you must fill out application:
You must also provide supporting documentation and evidence as per the checklist within the form.
Note: if a training organisation does not have a CRI, it must cease all RePL training until CASA approves a new CRI.
