Renewing or modifying a registered drone

Drone registration is valid for 12 months. You'll receive an email notification when it’s time to renew.

To renew, go to the ‘Manage registered drones' section of your myCASA account.

You can renew your registration up to 30 days before or up to 30 days after the due date. If you don’t renew within this 60 day period, you’ll need to register your drone again.

Modifying a registered drone

If you modify your drone, you may need to deregister it and register it as a new drone if the modifications:

  • change the category or type of drone (e.g. aeroplane to multi-rotor)
  • upgrade the classification of the aircraft (e.g. very small to medium)
  • increases the take-off weight by more than 20 per cent (including payload)
  • remove parts or components that are critical to the operation of the drone.
