To fly a drone or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) at night, you must have a:
- remotely piloted aircraft operator's certificate (ReOC)
- remote pilot licence (RePL) or employ a licensed remote pilot to operate the RPA.
The requirements
To fly a RPA at night, you must also:
- train and test the remote pilot
- keep records for any training and testing completed by the remote pilot
- conduct a risk assessment and mitigation for the operation
- document your practices and procedures.
To document your practices and procedures, you can either:
- use the templated procedures from sample operations manual and insert a copy of CASA Instrument 01/17 in Appendix C Permissions, Exemptions and Approvals
- apply for an approval to operate RPA at night with procedures you have created.
