You must apply to us to remove an exclusion from a:
- licence category
- type rating.
Removing an exclusion from a licence category
To remove an exclusion from a licence category, you need to have met the following theoretical and competency requirements relevant to the excluded aircraft system you are applying to have removed:
- Basic knowledge and competency requirements – (see 66.A.25 of the Part 66 Manual of Standards (MOS).
- Units of competency required for removal of an exclusion from a category or subcategory of licence – (see Appendix VIII of the Part 66 MOS).
Licence category exclusion removal training, examination and assessment may only be provided by a Part 147 Maintenance Training Organisation (MTO). If you are seeking to remove exclusions from your licence category, you should contact an MTO.
If you have undertaken your exclusion removal training at an MTO, the MTO will notify us on your behalf of the successful completion of your training.
Note: The new self-study training pathway currently does not cater for removal of exclusions from a Part 66 licence.
Submit the application form
To apply to remove an exclusion from your licence category, complete and submit the approved CASA form 546: Application for removal of exclusions/limitations from a CASR Part 66 licence (PDF). Instructions on how to submit are within the form.
Removing an exclusion from a type rating
To remove an exclusion from a type rating on your licence, you need to have firstly removed the exclusion from your licence category. Following that you will need to have met the theoretical training and examination and practical training and assessment requirements (for the specific aircraft type), relevant to the excluded aircraft system you are applying to have removed:
- Theoretical training and examination – (see 66.A.45 (d) of the Part 66 MOS).
- Practical training and assessment – (see 66.A.50 and 66.A.55 of the Part 66 MOS).
Aircraft type rating exclusion removal training, examination, and assessment may be provided by a Part 147 MTO, or by a Part 145 AMO (if approved by CASA to conduct ‘type rating’ exclusion removal training).
If you have undertaken your exclusion removal training at an MTO or AMO, the MTO or AMO will notify us on your behalf of the successful completion of your training.
