Digital licences and certificates

You can now carry a range of licences and certificates digitally. You can download your digital licence through our myCASA portal.

Digital licences have the same legal status as your paper-based licence. They’re optional and free to download.

Note: You can only use some digital licences in Australia – they may not be recognised overseas.

Current licences available in digital formats

You can access the following as digital licences:

Get your digital licence

To get your digital licence, you’ll need to:

  • have a myCASA account
  • add a copy to your Apple or Google wallet
  • have an Apple iPhone with iOS 10 or later installed, Apple Watch device with iOS 10 or later installed, or an Android with Android version 7.0 or later installed.

What your licence will look like

Your digital licence will contain some of the same information as your paper licence.

For example:

  • pilot licences will contain your medical certificate information and licence and category ratings and endorsements
  • aircraft maintenance licences will contain categories and subcategories, type ratings and exclusions
  • remotely piloted aircraft licences will show the type and weight category of the drone you can fly.

Some licences may contain your photo. If your licence does not, you will need to carry photo identification in case you are stopped and asked to validate your licence.

Any updates to your pilot credentials will appear on your digital once we have processed them in the myCASA portal.

For aircraft maintenance engineer licences, there may be some differences between your digital and paper licence.

This is due to changes in licensing privileges and standards, and changes in type ratings.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • removal of E10 on B1.1 licences
  • inclusion of I3 on B2 licences
  • de-rated aircraft like B1.2, DC3 and radial piston engines
  • displays of some aircraft type ratings that have changed over time (refer to the Part 66 Manual Of Standards).

These exceptions only appear on physical licences.

Confirm the details of your digital licence

Anyone with a myCASA account can use a camera-equipped smart device to see details of a digital licence. It’s a quick and easy way to get access to updates and verify someone’s licence is current.

  1. View the digital licence

Ask the person to show you their digital licence. You will see a QR code that you must scan.

  2. Scan the QR code

Select your camera app or app you use to scan QR codes. Place the QR code in the camera’s viewing frame and select the link that pops up.

  3. If prompted, log in to your myCASA account

Using your device, sign into your myCASA account.

  4. Agree to the declaration

After you have scanned the code, select 'confirm details of a digital licence' to confirm you have the licence holder's consent. You will be presented with detailed information about their licence.
