Part 132 of CASR Limited category aircraft

Part 132 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) sets out the requirements for limited category aircraft operations.

The Part operates along with:

  • regulations 262AN and 262AM of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988
  • Part 91 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998.

Part 132 takes precedence when there is an inconsistency between Part 91 and Part 132.

Part 132 provides flexibility and certainty around recreational use of warbirds and limited category historic or replica.

The Part sets out:

  • the conditions under which various limited category aircraft operations you can  conduct
  • the responsibilities of persons involved in limited category aircraft operations
  • the offences that relate to breaching the conditions for limited category aircraft operations.

Who it affects

Part 132 of CASR affects:

  • owners, operators, and pilots of ex-military aircraft (warbirds), replica warbird aircraft and certain historic aircraft
  • individuals and organisations that conduct adventure flights in warbirds, including employees and support staff
  • individuals or organisations who sell adventure flights in warbirds, including their agents
  • persons who fly as passengers in warbirds
  • people flying in replicas and historic aircraft
  • any other certified aircraft in the limited category.
