These airspace arrangements form part of a comprehensive suite of security arrangements being implemented for the event.

Drone operators are urged to:

  • check one of the CASA-verified drone safety apps if planning to fly a drone within the Melbourne CBD
  • familiarise themselves with the Airservices Australia AIP Supplement (AIP SUP).

Airspace restrictions

Between 2 to 8 March, only approved drone operators will be permitted to fly their drone in the temporary restricted airspace detailed in the AIP SUP.

No sport or recreational drones will be given permission to operate within restricted airspace.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not fly in areas where restrictions are in place – heavy penalties may apply if you operate illegally.
