We are reducing the stand-down periods after a failed Part 66 module exam.

a group of aircraft maintenance engineers discussing

This will help aspiring aircraft maintenance engineers progress towards getting a licence if they just miss out on a pass mark after their first attempt.

We’ve made these changes after considering your feedback to our earlier consultation.

Here’s what’s changing:

  • first failed attempt: no more stand-down period
  • second failed attempt: stand-down period reduced from 90 to 30 days
  • third failed attempt: stand-down period will be reduced from 12 to 6 months, then the cycle resets.

These changes balance the need to maintain the necessary high standard of knowledge and skills required while helping us to respond to feedback that the resit periods were creating unnecessary delays.

These changes will be introduced in early 2025 after our exam provider updates their online examination booking system.

Other amendments we consulted on, including the type rating updates, will commence when we make the amendments to the Part 66 Manual of Standards.

Visit our consultation hub to read the summary of consultation and the associated feedback.
