Part 23 of CASR Airworthiness standards for aeroplanes in the normal, utility, acrobatic or commuter category

Part 23 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) sets out the airworthiness standards for small aeroplanes. These include:

  • normal category aeroplanes
    • not intended for acrobatic operation
    • having up to 9 passenger seats
    • maximum takeoff weight up to 5,700 kg
  • utility category aeroplanes
    • intended for limited acrobatic operation
    • having up to 9 passenger seats
    • maximum takeoff weight up to 5,700 kg
  • acrobatic category aeroplanes
    • intended for acrobatic operation
    • having up to 9 passenger seats
    • maximum takeoff weight up to 5,700 kg
  • commuter category aeroplanes
    • propeller-driven multi-engine aeroplanes not intended for acrobatic operation
    • having up to 19 passenger seats
    • maximum takeoff weight up to 8,618 kg.
