Part 22 of CASR Airworthiness standards for sailplanes and powered sailplanes

Part 22 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) sets out the airworthiness standards for sailplanes. Sailplanes include gliders and powered sailplanes.

There are 2 categories of sailplanes:

  • utility category: sailplanes and powered sailplanes intended for normal soaring flight including limited acrobatic operation
  • acrobatic category: sailplanes and powered sailplanes intended for acrobatic operation.

Who it affects

Part 22 of CASR affects those who:

  • design sailplanes and powered sailplanes
  • design modifications and repairs for sailplanes and powered sailplanes.
