Link to consultations relevant to Part 172 of CASR.We’re currently making changes to Part 172 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR). The information provided in this section outlines what is changing, what you need to know and do, and links to any relevant guidance and reference material.
The last significant change to Part 172 occurred in 2011 when many of the regulations relating to approvals were repealed and replaced by regulations in Part 11 of CASR.
The most recent change to the Part 172 Manual of Standards (MOS) occurred in late 2019 when the standards for parallel instrument approach operations were omitted in order to give effect to new equivalent standards introduced by the International Civil Aviation Organisation within the Procedures for Air Navigation Services – Air Traffic Management (PANS-ATM, Doc. 4444).
Since 2003, there have been 8 amendments to Part 172 MOS to incorporate new standards and procedures. However, there has not been a holistic review of the Part 172 and the MOS in the 15 years since introduction.
There is also a need to make the following specific changes to the Part 172 suite:
These matters are being addressed in Project AS 14/23 - Post Implementation Review of CASR Part 172 - Air traffic service providers.
Indirectly, Part 172 is included in the scope of work for Project SS 14/07 - Review of guidance material for the development and implementation of Safety Management Systems.
There are no current guidance materials related to changes for Part 172 of CASR changes.
