Issue: meeting ATC requests

Flight Crew have limited time to complete necessary tasks following ATC requests. For example, change routing, speeds, altitudes etc.

What can CASR Part 121 operators do?

Ensure your crew feel empowered through policy to know that they don’t always have to say yes to ATC requests.

Flight crew should only accept changes requested by ATC when they have sufficient time to safely achieve the change. This is acknowledging that efficiency is an important part of any business.

Your organisation culture should support crew to decline ATC unless crew are satisfied the change can be safely implemented.

What is CASA doing or has already delivered?

We will continue to monitor reporting from industry to help identify and address any trends related to this issue.
