Sector demographics and activity

Based on current available information, almost 70 AOC holders use a fleet of 759 aircraft of 60 types/models to conduct ATO-LA operations.

These aircraft range in age from 84 years to 1 year old, with an average age of 21 years.

The ATO-LA sector flew an estimated annual average of 945,212 hours between 2014-2020.

In 2020, the overall flying hours dropped to around 47% of 2019 flying hours due to the impact of COVID-19 on sector operations.

During 2020, scheduled passenger transport hours reduced by around 63%, while non-scheduled passenger transport hours doubled compared to 2019.

During this time, scheduled freight hours increased slightly, while non-scheduled freight hours nearly tripled.

Approximately 91% of operations in the sector are scheduled passenger (previously known as Regular Public Transport, or RPT) operations.
