The air transport operation – smaller aeroplane (ATO-SA) sector is broadly defined as air transport operations using smaller aeroplanes. There are two parts to the definition.

  1. 'Air transport operations' refers to operations conducted for hire or reward for one or more of the following purposes:
    • passenger transport
    • cargo transport
    • medical transport.
  2. 'Smaller aeroplane' defined as:
    • a maximum operational passenger seating capacity of nine
    • a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 8,618 kg or less.
