International AMOs operating under Part 145

Operators found challenges in standardising operating procedures for international AMOs operating under Part 145 of CASR.

What can operators do?

Consistent policies, procedures and standards across all CASR approved maintenance organisations are important, especially as more overseas AMOs service aircraft.

We encourage you to talk with contracted AMOs to raise and address any issues.

This includes:

  • operational procedures
  • contractual requirements
  • organisational process
  • safety and risk management requirements.

What are we doing and what have we already delivered?

We encourage ongoing communication between operators and AMOs including international AMOs to improve procedures and aviation safety.

We continue to work with industry to promote:

  • effective safety management systems
  • best practice
  • regulatory requirements.

We have published a Safety Management System resource kit to help create and put in place an SMS, including managing of third-party contractors. The latest edition has improved guidance on contractors.

Advisory Circular 119-01 helps organisations meet Part 119 of CASR requirements and provides examples of SMS processes, including managing third-party contractors.
