Sector threats, issues and hazards

The SSRP workshop identified a range of hazards affecting gliding operations. These include:

  • Operational
  • Environmental
  • Technical
  • human factor risks.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of effective safety management, including:

  • hazard identification
  • occurrence reporting
  • safety assurance
  • continuous learning.

In the following sections:

  • 'What you can do' refers to actions that may be taken by the broader gliding community, including Gliding Australia (as the Approved Self-administering Aviation Organisation [ASAO]), affiliated gliding clubs, and individual glider pilots
  • 'What we have done' refers to actions undertaken by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) in support of aviation safety and the management of identified sector risks.
