The gliding activities SSRP found a range of operational, technical, environmental, and human factors hazards affecting the sector.

Common themes included:

  • communication
  • managing traffic
  • technology that improves awareness of other aircraft
  • human performance
  • ageing aircraft
  • the increasing complexity of shared airspace.

The workshop highlighted the importance of CASA and industry working together to:

  • find risks
  • review safety data
  • share practical ways to reduce risk.

Information from the SSRP helps guide our safety work, including:

  • monitoring
  • education
  • safety promotion
  • industry engagement.

We encourage operators to consider these risks and safety measures in their own operations and safety systems.
