ATSB applies safety factors to certain occurrences to identify conditions or factors that contributed to the occurrence.
Safety factors are an event or condition that increases safety risks. This means it increases the likelihood of an occurrence or the consequences associated with an occurrence.
ATSB assigned safety factors to 7% of occurrences at Class C aerodromes and 15% at Class D aerodromes. Focussing on those occurrences with an ERC of medium or higher, the most common safety factors were:
- Class C Aerodromes
- monitoring and checking (aircraft operator action)
- ground handling action
- assessing and planning (ATS action)
- Class D Aerodromes
