Sector regulations: parachuting

Parachute operators must hold an authorisation from a Part 105 Approved Self-Administering Organisation (ASAO).

Part 105 of CASR contains the rules for parachuting from aircraft. It also includes the requirements for the issue of the Manual of Standards for Part 105.

Part 105 of CASR includes:

  • reserve parachute assembly requirements
  • emergency parachute requirements
  • aircraft operated to facilitate parachute descents: trainee or tandem parachutists
  • requirements for dropping things
  • operational requirements
  • personnel fatigue management
  • weight and balance requirements
  • instruments, indicators, equipment and systems
  • flight crew requirements.

All operators and pilots also need to follow the Part 91 of CASR General operating and flight rules. Please note Part 105 may add to or turn off some Part 91 requirements – either completely or partially.
