Apply to provide AROC training and assessment

Before you can provide training and assessment for an Aeronautical radio operator certificate (AROC), your course must meet our requirements. We will assess your AROC course and supporting documents before issuing an instrument of approval.

Before you apply

Your training course must cover each of the knowledge requirements in Part 61 Manual of Standards:

  • Schedule 2, Unit C3 Operate aeronautical radio
  • Schedule 3, Unit 1.2.1 RARO: RPL aeronautical radio operator.

Your application must clearly demonstrate where each knowledge requirement is covered in your course material.

If you provide remote training, tell us how much of your course will be delivered outside a traditional classroom environment.

How to apply

To apply, you need to complete the steps below.

  1. Complete the form

Complete 61-9AROC – application for approval of AROC course and the AROC Compliance Checklist.

    Your application must include:

The practical portion of your AROC course (where candidates actually transmit and receive using aviation safety radio frequencies) must be conducted under direct supervision as required by CASR Part 64.040.

  2. Submit your application

Email the completed form and checklist to the email address listed on the form. Ensure you include all the required material from Step 1.

We will email you to confirm receipt.

  3. Pay the fee

We will estimate the costs to assess your application and provide a quote. You must pay the fee before we will start assessing your application.

  4. Assessing your application

We won't start the assessment until we have received all correct and accurate documentation. We may need access to other volumes of your company's operations manual suite during the assessment. We will request any additional documents as required.

  5. Apply for Instrument of Approval

Once we have approved your training course, you must apply for and pay a fee to obtain an instrument of approval for each individual who will conduct the training and assessments. Log into myCASA and search for form 61-9ARA Instrument of approval AROC Assessor to complete it.

  • contain a minimum of 40 questions in each exam
