Occurrence types – event risk classification

Studying ATSB’s event risk classification (ERC) for occurrences in the sector helps to gain further clarity on risk. Of the occurrences, 6% were medium or high risk at Class C aerodromes and 14% at Class D aerodromes.

Based on ERC classification the top 3 occurrence taxonomies were:

  • Class C Aerodromes
    • loss of separation
    • birdstrike
    • taxiing collision
  • Class D Aerodromes
    • runway incursion
    • runway excursion
    • near collision.
