If you have a military flight crew qualification, you can fly civilian aircraft only if we authorise you to.
To do this, you need a flight crew licence with the right ratings and endorsements.
Getting a flight crew licence
If you're in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and want a flight crew licence, rating or endorsement, you must:
- hold a qualification at least equal to the licence you want (or do the exams and flight test)
- pass a flight test to get an air transport pilot licence (ATPL).
You may also need to pass an English language proficiency assessment.
The flight crew licensing manual says who is eligible to get a flight crew licence.
The Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) exempt ADF flight crew from some licence requirements. See Converting an overseas flight crew licence for more information.
