Get your certificate
If you want to fly remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) commercially, or hire remote pilot licence (RePL) holders, you will need a remotely piloted aircraft operator's certificate (ReOC).
ReOCs are issued to people and businesses who hold an ACN or ARBN, and Government entities.
You do not need a ReOC if you are only flying for fun.
If you're flying a drone but don't have a RePL, you will soon need to be accredited.
Your first ReOC is valid for 12 months with approved renewals valid for up to 3 years.
How to apply
To apply for a ReOC you must:
- Complete the following forms:
- Complete the following supporting documentation:
- Email your completed forms and documentation to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Pay the assessment fee.
- Participate in an interview with us.
You can also apply for your ReOC through an industry delegate.
Additional flight permissions
You can apply for additional permissions under your certificate to fly:
- closer than 30 m to people
- outside of visual line-of-sight
- in restricted airspace or closer than 3 nm to a controlled aerodrome
- higher than 400 ft above ground level.
Your certificate will list the types of RPA you'd like to fly. You can select multiple RPA types to be included on your certificate.
- powered lift
Your certificate will also contain a weight category, generally up to 25 kg (with a 7 kg restriction where required).
If your RPA weighs more than 25 kg, your certificate will record the RPA manufacturer, type, model and weight. Airships will be listed by detailing cubic capacity.
