Class 5 medical self-declaration post implementation review technical working group

We introduced the Class 5 medical self-declaration in February 2024. As part of the project, a post-implementation review (PIR) took place in 2025. It included possible updates to the Class 5 medical self-declaration through a TWG.

We found possible changes to the Class 5 instrument through the summary of consultation and an internal review.

We have completed a risk assessment and are seeking input from the TWG. This will help ensure any changes:

  • maintain the original policy intent
  • don’t affect aviation safety.

The TWG will consider:

  • allowing more types of flying endorsements, such as aerobatics and formation flying, with appropriate restrictions
  • allowing flight under instrument flight rules
  • increasing the number of passengers operators can carry
  • updating the medical eligibility criteria and requirements.
