Our Board meeting 16 April 2026

The CASA Board met in Launceston on 15 and 16 April 2026 as part of its obligations under Section 53 of the Civil Aviation Act 1988 to set CASA's strategic direction and ensure the organisation performs its functions effectively.

While in Launceston, the Board met with the Airservices Australia Board. The Boards received updates from the two CEOs and discussed progress against a number of significant initiatives currently underway. Both Boards reaffirmed their commitment to an annual Board to Board meeting.

While in Launceston, the Board hosted a Meet the Board event with Tasmanian aviation industry representatives. As part of the Board's industry engagement we visited Sharp Aviation, a regional airline established in 1990 operating scheduled passenger and freight services primarily within Tasmania and across Bass Strait.

The Board's theme-based agenda focused on organisational and operational matters affecting the aviation sector. Key topics included corporate governance, financial management, major projects, cyber security, organisational culture, work health and safety, and workforce planning. The Board also received reports from the Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, the Chair of the People and Culture Sub Committee and the Industry Complaints Commissioner.

The Executive Management Team provided updates on current operational initiatives, including accident and incident reporting, risk and causation analysis. The Board received the first revamped report under CASA's National Oversight Plan, which will be considered on a quarterly basis. The Board also reviewed progress on the Forward Regulatory Program, progress against the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems and Advanced Air Mobility Strategic Regulatory Roadmap.

The next Board meeting will be held in Brisbane on 25 June 2026.

Air Chief Marshal (Ret'd) Mark Binskin AC
