COVID-19 vaccination fact sheet

Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) has approved the use of COVID-19 vaccinations. We treat COVID-19 vaccinations like any other vaccination.

After receiving a vaccination, the certificate-holder must:

  • self-assess their current symptoms and not exercise the privileges of their license if they do not feel well enough to do so
  • declare any ongoing incapacity as required for their certificate
  • check with their Designated Aviation Medical Examiner regarding their fitness or return to fitness as required for their certificate.

We advise certificate-holders to stand down for 24 hours after any vaccination.

Vaccination monitoring

The TGA is responsible for monitoring the safety of all vaccines approved for use in Australia and closely assesses safety data before approval. The TGA continues to monitor the safety of vaccines after registration in Australia. This monitoring helps them detect and respond to any safety concerns.

You can find out more on the Therapeutic Goods Administration's website.

If you experience any vaccine-related side effects, you should seek appropriate medical care.

The International Civil Aviation Organization endorses vaccination against COVID-19. This endorsement is a core element of a multi-layer risk management strategy for aviation safety and international air transport. This includes vaccination of aviation personnel.
