The CASA Board met in Cairns / Gimuy on 15 October 2026 as part of its obligations under Section 53 of the Civil Aviation Act 1988 to set CASA's strategic direction and ensure the organisation performs its functions effectively.
As part of the Board's industry engagement we visited Leidos Airborne Solutions which provided valuable insight into the specialised aviation operations that support Australia's maritime search and rescue capabilities across remote and demanding environments. The Board also hosted a Meet the Board event with North Queensland aviation community representatives.
Prior to the meeting, the Board held a strategy session where they received an overview of the National Aviation Safety Plan, CASA's Future State Initiative and a demonstration of the Airspace Risk Modelling System.
The Board's theme-based agenda covered operational and regulatory matters, enterprise risk, financial management, digital strategy priorities, people and culture, and emerging aviation technologies. The Board welcomed progress against the General Aviation Workplan and noted CASA's progress on the RPAS and AAM Strategic Regulatory Roadmap and UTM Action Plan activities.
The Board also reviewed the annual report of the People and Culture Sub Committee and agreed its priority areas for 2026–27, including workforce planning, the People and Culture Strategy and diversity and inclusion. The Board noted CASA's current financial position and continued focus on effective oversight of revenue, expenditure and cash reserves.
The next Board meeting will be held in Sydney on 10 December 2026 and will include a joint meeting with the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand Board.
