Explaining the rules – Holding clear of controlled airspace

This animation explains what to do if you cannot get ATC clearance to enter controlled airspace.

Plan early and request clearance in enough time for ATC to assess your request.

Monitor your position, fuel and weather so you can remain outside of he controlled airspace boundary if clearance is delayed or unavailable.

Never enter controlled airspace without the required clearance, unless you need to in an emergency.

VFR flights entering Class E airspace do not need ATC clearance. This animation focuses on situations where you need clearance before entering controlled airspace.

Refresh your knowledge before your next flight. Find more information in the pilot safety hub.
