Flight training organisations

A flight training operator provides the flight training required by an individual to obtain or maintain an Australian pilot licence, rating or endorsement. Operators wanting to conduct flight training activities will require CASA approval.

The type of approval, the assessment requirements and the regulations that apply depend on what training activities are to be conducted, what flight crew licences, ratings or endorsements will be issued and whether the training will be conducted in an aircraft, a flight simulation training device or both.

The regulations governing flight training in Australia are contained within Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998 (CASR) Parts 61, 64, 141 and 142. Part 5 of the Civil Aviation Regulation 1988 applies to balloons training.

Approval by CASA can be in the form of a Part 141 Certificate, a Part 142 B2 Certificate or an Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) with a Part 142 authorisation or a combination of these.
