We’re pleased to announce the release of our updated General Aviation (GA) Workplan 2025, alongside the Forward Regulatory Program and the refreshed RPAS and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Strategic Regulatory Roadmap – 3 key initiatives shaping the future of aviation in Australia.

We’ve also improved how we present updates across all 3 programs, making it easier for you to track progress and see what’s changing.
General Aviation Workplan: Practical change, real impact
The updated GA Workplan reflects lessons learned, industry feedback, and recognition of the ongoing challenges faced by pilots, maintainers, and operators – particularly in rural and remote areas.
Developed in consultation with the General Aviation Advisory Network and the Aviation Safety Advisory Panel, the workplan is a key commitment under the Australian Government’s 2024 Aviation White Paper.
This latest version includes initiatives that focus on:
- improving pilot licensing rules
- streamlining airworthiness and maintenance
- simplifying health arrangements
- expanding sport and recreational aviation
- driving continuous improvement across the sector.
Each initiative is designed to be practical, achievable, and aligned with the real-world needs of operators, pilots, engineers, and aviation organisations. They cover topics such as:
- carriage of emergency service passengers
- recognition of military qualifications
- streamlining flight examiner rating approvals
- Class 4 medical progression
- rationalising airworthiness directives.
The original 2022 workplan delivered 14 key initiatives, including the Class 5 medical scheme and expanded examiner proficiency checks. Several projects from that agenda continue, such as Part 43 maintenance changes and proposals to improve airspace access for sport and recreational aviation.
Forward Regulatory Program: Transparency and planning
Our Forward Regulatory Program outlines the regulatory development work planned over the next 12 months and beyond. It covers the full lifecycle of change – from policy development to legislation – and provides greater transparency to help industry make informed decisions.
We recognise that timeframes may shift due to changing priorities or government policy, but we’re committed to keeping you informed.
Your feedback is welcomed and helps shape where we focus our efforts.
RPAS and AAM Strategic Roadmap: innovation with safety
The updated RPAS and AAM Strategic Regulatory Roadmap sets the direction for safely integrating remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS)and advanced air mobility (AAM) into Australian airspace. It supports innovation while ensuring safety, community expectations, and environmental considerations remain central.
Together, these initiatives reflect our commitment to a safer, more efficient, and forward-looking aviation sector.
