We’ve released a new Self-study pathway guide to becoming a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer (LAMEs).

It comes as May-tenance Month, which acknowledges the contribution aircraft maintenance professionals make to the safety of aviation every day, wraps up.

The new downloadable guide provides information on the CASA self-study pathway for people who want to qualify for a Part 66 licence without undertaking an apprenticeship or attending a maintenance training organisation.

It takes what can otherwise be complex information across our regulatory guidance material and brings it together into plain language.

It outlines the steps to obtain a Part 66 licence via self-study, including which theory modules to study, how to sit exams, and what practical experience must be recorded in the logbook.

This guide covers self-study for B1 (mechanical) and B2 (avionics) licences, including modular licence options.

A printed copy will be available in the coming weeks.
