Explaining the rules - Avoiding runway excursions

This animation explains how planning ahead and making early decisions can help reduce the risk of a runway excursion during take-off or landing.

Before you fly, check the weather, NOTAMs and runway conditions and make sure you have enough runway for the conditions.

During take-off and landing, stay within your limits and keep the aircraft on the centreline.

Set up early for a stable approach and aim to land in the first third of the runway.

If something is not right on take-off, reject the take-off. If your approach is unstable, go around early.

Refresh your knowledge before your next flight. Find more information in the pilot safety hub.
