Date

Many operators are now preparing or finalising their safety management system (SMS), human factors and non‑technical skills (HFNTS) and (if applicable) their flight data analysis program (FDAP) procedures.

The deadline to submit your documents and nominate your safety manager is 1 September 2026. We encourage operators to submit early.

What you must submit

Operators must provide:

  • your SMS procedures
  • your HFNTS program
  • your FDAP procedures (if applicable)
  • the nomination of your safety manager, including evidence of competency.

These documents form part of your operations manual and must accurately reflect how your organisation operates.

Follow our step-by-step guide to preparing and submitting your documentation.

Start now to avoid delays

Preparing early gives you time to refine your procedures and confirm operational details. It also helps you:

  • embed safer day‑to‑day habits
  • avoid last‑minute pressure
  • ensure your documentation is complete and consistent.

Support for operators

You can access free support from an aviation safety advisor (ASA).

An ASA can help you understand transition requirements and point you to tools, templates and guidance.

You can also access:

  • SMS tools and templates
  • HFNTS training materials
  • step‑by‑step guidance on the transition requirements and deadlines.

Final deadline

From 2 December 2026, your systems must be implemented and your safety manager accepted by CASA.
