CASA CEO and Director of Aviation Safety, Pip Spence, has been reappointed for a further 2-year term through to May 2028.

Since commencing in the role in 2021, Ms Spence has led the organisation through a significant period of change and delivery. During this time, CASA has progressed major regulatory reform, introduced initiatives to help address aviation workforce shortages, and supported both industry and the organisation through the post-COVID recovery period.
Under Ms Spence’s leadership, CASA has strengthened engagement and transparency with industry, enhanced relationships across the aviation sector, and continued to build its reputation as a world-class aviation safety regulator. Internally, she has maintained a strong focus on organisational culture, shared values and leadership capability.
Her reappointment provides continuity and stability as CASA continues to respond to the evolving challenges and opportunities facing the aviation industry and works towards becoming the regulator of the future.
New Board member
CASA also welcomes Greg Hughes as a new Board member.
Mr Hughes brings extensive international aviation experience, having held senior leadership positions at Cathay Pacific, including Executive Director and Chief Operations and Services Delivery Officer. More recently, he has worked as a senior advisor with global management consultancy firm Oliver Wyman.
His broad operational and strategic expertise will be a valuable addition to the CASA Board. Mr Hughes will formally join the Board at its next meeting in Brisbane in June.
