We have published Advisory Circular (AC) 101-06 (AusSORA). It sets the method for assessing complex drone operations in Australia.

From 11 May 2026, you should use AusSORA when applying for beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS) and other complex drone operations.

The new AC:

  • adapts the JARUS SORA 2.5 framework for Australian conditions
  • updates ground risk, containment and operational safety objectives
  • replaces SORA 2.0 ground risk assessment – requirement and alternate criteria - TMI – 2024-03 from 11 May 2026.

What you need to do

  • Starting a new application? Use AusSORA now.
  • Have an application underway? Submit before 11 May 2026 using the current method.

Forms, checklists and guidance are now available.
