A new trial supports RePL training organisations that use medium remotely piloted aircraft (RPA). The trial makes it easier to add new medium RPA models to training courses.

Medium RPA training - news article

Currently, each chief remote pilot instructor (CRI) must do a flight test for every medium RPA model. This adds time to the process.

The trial makes 2 changes:

  • instructors assessed in a category no longer need a flight test for every model in that category – they will receive a generic rating
  • a streamlined process updates the ReOC when a new model fits an existing Part 101 MOS instrument.

These changes reduce delays and paperwork. Training organisations can start using new aircraft sooner while maintaining safety.

The trial applies only to medium RPA in the same category used by training organisations. Other approvals will continue under the usual rules.
