If you hold an Australian flight crew licence issued before 1 September 2014 (a Civil Aviation Regulation Part 5 licence) and have not converted it yet to a Civil Aviation Safety Regulation Part 61 licence, you should apply now.

That’s because from 1 September 2025, you will not be able to transition your old licence to a Part 61 licence.
You may be eligible for a Part 61 licence if:
- you hold a pilot licence that was issued before 1 September 2014 under the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988, including any equivalent authorisations which are now included in Part 61
- the equivalent old authorisations have not been surrendered or cancelled, and
- you apply to transition your old licence for your new Part 61 pilot licence before 1 September 2025.
Applying for your new licence is easy. You have the option of getting a paper or digital licence document. Simply:
- download and complete forms 61-9TX and 61-9PIC
- email the completed forms, along with all supporting documents, to applications@casa.gov.au
- pay the $25 fee online for a printed copy of your licence or provide your credit card details on the 61-9TX form.
Remember: To use your new Part 61 licence, you must hold a valid medical appropriate for the operations you want to conduct and comply with recent experience, flight review or proficiency check requirements for the aircraft and operations ratings you want to use.
Please note you need to have a paper licence if you are flying overseas or are seeking recognition of your Australian licence by a foreign State’s aviation authority.
If you have any questions, please direct these through our flight crew licensing enquiries webform.
