Project AS 04/08 - Australian Aircraft Equipment Survey
New consultation project has been registered.
The Chairs of Australian Strategic Air Traffic Management Group (ASTRA) and of the ADS-B Implementation Team (ABIT) have written to CASA requesting a repeat of the CAA Great Australian Equipment Survey, last carried out in 1994, for the purpose of obtaining data for the ASTRA Lower Airspace Program Benefit Cost Study.
The ASTRA Cost Benefit Study, currently being managed by Airservices Australia, is looking at the safety and economic benefits associated with the introduction of ADS-B technology to the Australian airspace system. In order to calculate the cost of the supply, fitment and maintenance of ADS-B avionics in the aircraft fleet, ASTRA has requested data from CASA on the extent of fitment of various avionics, such as transponders and GPS.
This project sets out to survey all GA aircraft with a MTOW not above 5,700 kg including aeroplanes, helicopters, gliders, trikes, balloons and ultralights, to obtain the widest possible cross-section of the current aircraft fleet.
