Subject: USE OF UNAPPROVED PARTS ROM SURPLUS MILITARY INVENTORY It recently came to the attention of Bell Helicopter that certain surplus military COH-58 parts are being offered for sale and represented as proper for use on commercial Bell 206B helicopters.
The COH-58 is a military scout/observation helicopter built by Bell under contract to the Canadian Government. It has further been called to our attention that COH-58 main rotor hub assembly has been represented to the useable on a Bell 206B3 Jet Ranger, this claim is inaccurate.
This information Letter is issued to advise that while there is some parts commonality between certain models of the 206B and the COH-58, many of the COH-58 parts do not meet the certified 206B type design and are therefore unapproved parts. Also, the COH-58 components were maintained and overhauled under the Canadian Forces Technical Orders instead of the commercial maintenance and retirement documentation. These Technical Orders do not constitute a Transport Canada or Federal Aviation Administration approved maintenance system.
Bell Helicopter wishes to advise our customers of the above in order to avoid confusion. In the event that more clarification of specific usage is desired contact Bell Helicopter Product Support Engineering.
