Data originators

Data originators are organisations or individuals responsible for providing aeronautical data and information to AIS providers (Airservices Australia) for publication in the Integrated Aeronautical Information Package (IAIP) and on aeronautical charts. They are also authorised to issue NOTAMs – Notice to Airmen.

During the transition period, data originators were contacted by Airservices Australia and issued a data product specification.  In accordance with Part 175, data originators are required to:

1. Appoint a qualified employee as a single senior manager with designated responsibility for the AIP.

They will need to:

  • ensure they notify Airservices as soon as practicable of any changes to aeronautical information or data in the AIP.
  • provide data and information to Airservices as per their specifications around accuracy, resolution, timeframes, and the identification of changed information.
  • consult with aviation organisations before providing information to Airservices if the information may result in the need for the organisation to change their operations or procedures.

2. Appoint a qualified employee/s as a NOTAM authorised person/s, who has the knowledge and competence to request the issue, review and cancellation of NOTAMs.

They will need to:

  • ensure NOTAMs are issued as soon as practicable when circumstances requiring one eventuates.
  • ensure when issuing NOTAMs that any changes to existing published aeronautical data is readily identifiable, and the information is in a format suitable for publication as a NOTAM.
  • consult with aviation organisations before providing information to Airservices if the information may result in the need for the organisation to change their operations or procedures.

3. Notify Airservices Australia of the names of the AIP responsible person, and the NOTAM authorised person/s, including when the appointments change from previous occupants of either role.

4. In addition to the above, the Bureau of Meteorology need to provide their data and information in accordance with the standards and format mentioned in Annex 3 to the Chicago Convention.

5. Conduct an annual review of data and information published in the Integrated Aeronautical Information Package (AIP) and on aeronautical charts.
