Case study 5: Dedicated training centre opens in Brisbane
CASA opened a dedicated and custom-built training centre in the Brisbane office in April 2012.
The training centre can cater for 60 to 80 people, and increases CASA’s educational training facilities from two classrooms to six, allowing different courses to be delivered simultaneously.
While CASA staff from all over Australia will be the main users of the centre, the classrooms will also be used to deliver training to members of the aviation industry when the need arises.
A large amount of preparatory work went into the new training centre to ensure it successfully met the standards required by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) should CASA decide to pursue delivery of ICAO accredited courses in the future. This work met a key strategic goal for the project.
The training centre has provided CASA with additional flexibility when training is required at short notice and has resulted in projected cost savings due to CASA no longer having to hire external training venues on a regular basis.
The centre has smart information technology in place such as interactive smartboards and wireless connectivity enabling CASA to look at innovative methods of teaching in the future.
Environmentally sustainable building practices were used throughout the design and construction phases of the project.
