Approved PBN databases
It is important to ensure that the navigation data integrity required for PBN operations, and in particular for more complex RNP operations, is achieved through using aeronautical data that has been provided through approved aeronautical data processes.
Under CAO 20.91 Section 13, operators must use approved navigation databases for PBN operations, including specifically for RNP APCH and RNP AR that are provided by an organisation that has a Type 2 Letter of Acceptance (LOA) issued by FAA or EASA.
A Type 1 LOA is a generic approval that allows a data provider to supply aeronautical data to an avionics manufacturer. A Type 2 LOA is specific to a piece of avionics equipment and is integral to how the equipment functions with the data.
Jeppesen provide databases to customers on behalf of a number of Type 2 LOA holders. Importantly, Jeppesen do not alter or manipulate the data but provide data updates over the internet.
