Steps to complete under Appendix 1
The table below lists the steps required to develop fatigue management policies and procedures under Appendix 1.
|1||Assess Appendix 1 for suitability to your operations. If any of your pilots are required to conduct operations in the early hours of the morning (between 1am and sunrise), Appendix 1 will not be suitable.||CAAP 48-01 v3.2 (pdf 1.13 MB)|
|2||Develop content for your operations manual to ensure it has satisfactory procedures and limits for Appendix 1 or use a sample manual.||Appendix C of CAAP 48-01|
|3||If your pilots will also be required to operate to other appendices you need to develop procedures to meet requirements for operations under multiple appendices. These procedures must manage flight crew member transitions between appendices, and meet the requirements of subsection 13 and subparagraph 15.2(d) of CAO 48.1.||Appendix B of CAAP 48-01|
|4||Develop procedures to ensure compliance with general requirements set out in section 14 of CAO 48.1 Instrument 2019 (such as rostering systems and provision for meals).||Section 4 of CAAP 48-01|
If you are an existing AOC holder transitioning to the new rules please make sure that your operations manual addresses the requirements under Appendix 1 and submit your operations manual amendment to your regional CASA office for review.
If you are a new AOC holder choosing to operate under Appendix 1, you must ensure your AOC application addresses the requirements under Appendix 1 and submit it to CASA’s Permissions Issue team via email@example.com.
Note: All limits and procedures must be documented in your operations manual. CASA must be satisfied that the limits and procedures in the operations manual are sufficient to reasonably ensure that pilots will not exceed safe levels of fatigue while operating an aircraft.
