Additional support for non-destructive testing and aircraft weld authority holders
We have published an exemption (CASA EX82/20) to assist non-destructive testing (NDT) and aircraft weld authority holders who are unable to meet the renewal requirements for the reissue of either a NDT or aircraft weld authority during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Extra time to complete certain pilot exams
We’ve published an exemption (CASA EX83/20) to assist people who may be having difficulty completing their Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and Air Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) examination program due to social distancing rules affecting their ability to attend exam venues.

A sample aerodrome manual and guide aligned with the new Part 139 aerodrome regulations is now available. Use these documents to help you update or create a new aerodrome manual. Also see new advisory circular AC 139.C-01 v1.0 – Supplementary guidance on developing an aerodrome manual. Aerodrome manuals can also be developed using our free online manual authoring and assessment tool.

We have suspended all face-to-face engagement activities in line with nation-wide efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
To ensure our more important and longer-term initiatives remain on track, we will still be conducting online consultation and encourage your participation.
Your feedback is important and if you have any specific circumstances or challenges in participating during the current environment, please contact us using the details listed in each consultation.
Transition policy for flight operations regulations
We are seeking feedback on the draft policy proposal for the flight operations regulations. These policies will impact every Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) holder and include how current AOC holders would be granted equivalent authorisations, obligations for updating and providing expositions and operations manuals, and delayed commencement dates for some new regulatory requirements. Consultation closes 30 June 2020.
Part 61 Manual of Standards - Spin avoidance and stall recovery training
Consultation is now open on proposed amendments to the Part 61 Manual of Standards (MOS) designed to remove inconsistencies with the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations regarding the present practice of 'incipient spin' training and testing. These amendments reflect the policy changes set out in Advisory Circular (AC) 61-16 v1.0. Visit the Consultation Hub to have your say by 26 June 2020.
Renewal of DAMP exemptions
We have issued a new instrument (CASA EX81/20) regarding implementation of drug and alcohol management plans (DAMP). It incorporates the renewal of three exemptions, including one for micro-businesses. None of the conditions have been changed and no action is required by certificate holders - unless you want to adopt the CASA micro-business DAMP in which case you must follow a regulatory service process. More information is available on the CASA website.
Chief Pilot Requirements (Aerial Application and Certain Aerial Work Operators)
We have published a new instrument (EX84/20) that grants an exemption to a specified class of aircraft operators that conduct aerial work operations in aeroplanes, offering a flexible new way to appoint a Chief Pilot. It allows us to approve the appointment of a Chief Pilot if the person has completed the Aerial Application Association of Australia (AAAA) Chief Pilot Course and been assessed as suitable. For more information see the instrument on the Federal Register of Legislation.
We published three advisory circulars this month.
