Project MS 13/14 - Amendment to Part 66 Manual of Standards (MOS) - Aircraft Listings

Topic code:
Maintenance/Maintenance personnel
Project status:

Closure notes

Project closed 22 May 2014.

The Part 66 Manual of Standards Amendment Instrument 2014 (No. 1) which transferred the aircraft type ratings lists previously contained in Advisory Circular AC 66-2 into the Part 66 MOS, was registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments - Australian Government ComLaw website  (FRLI number F2014L00492) on 2 May 2014 and came into effect on the day after registration.

The amendments contained in this instrument are now incorporated into the Part 66 Manual of Standards.

CASR Part 66 specific aircraft type rating, post an aircraft type rating decision made by CASA, are listed within an Advisory Circular (AC) created for that purpose.

Whilst the current aircraft type rating listing system has been in place for two years, the Legislative Instruments ACT raises doubt regarding its continued use.

To remove any doubt about the status of that listing CASA is now preparing to legislate a supporting schedule to the Part 66 Manual of Standards that will contain the CASA aircraft type rating decisions.

Project objective

The objective is to add a schedule to the Part 66 MOS that will contain the same information previously listed with the AC 66-2 - List of Aircraft Type Ratings for CASR Part 66 licences. The change will remove any doubt about the validity of the listing and tie to existing legislation in the same way as the current process.

Cross references in guidance material to the existing AC would be consequently updated to the new MOS schedule.
