Full project title:

Allow use of aeronautical products maintained and released by a Part 145 AMO on aircraft and aeronautical products to which CAR 1988 applies

Closure notes

Project closed 8 May 2013.

CASA EX14/13 has been registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments and came into effect on 23 April 2013.

Issue

Currently a person is not permitted to use an aeronautical product maintained and released by a Part 145 AMO on aircraft or aeronautical products to which CAR 1988 applies. This means a Part 145 AMO is required to retain/obtain the CAR 30 approval to maintain and release aeronautical products for use in an aircraft or another aeronautical product to which CAR 1988 applies. This is onerous for Part 145 AMOs as they have to hold two approvals and maintain two sets of procedures - one for CAR 30 approval and one for Part 145 approval. Considering maintenance carried out on aeronautical products by a Part 145 AMO would meet or exceed the regulatory standards of CAR 1988, there should not be any restriction for use of such aeronautical products in an aircraft or in another aeronautical product.

Project objective

The objective of this project is to provide a legislative instrument such as an exemption from the requirements of Part 4A of the CAR 1988 to allow use of aeronautical product maintained and released by Part 145 AMO on aircraft and aeronautical products to which CAR 1988 applies.
