Closure notes

Project closed 10 July 2013.

The Civil Aviation Order 108.56 Repeal Instrument 2013 repeals Civil Aviation Order 108.56 and will commence on 01 August 2013. The requirements previously contained in CAO 108.56 are now contained in Civil Aviation Order 100.5. The Civil Aviation Order 100.5 Amendment Instrument 2013 (No. 1) was registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments - Australian ComLaw website (FRLI number F2013L01330) on 08 July 2013 and comes into effect on 01 August 2013.

Issue

Following correspondence from Industry regarding current altimeter setting procedures, a review of these procedures exposed an indirectly related anomaly in published material that deals with altimeter maintenance standards.

Two Airworthiness Directives , AD/INST/8 amendment 4 and AD/INST/9 amendment 6, identify conflicting standards in CAO 108.56 and US FAR 43 Appendix E.

Project Objective

The objective is to review CAO 108.56, AD/INST/8, AD/INST/9 and AD/RAD/43 to establish a single maintenance standard for altimeters regardless of whether intended for IFR or VFR use.

In addition, the project will review AIP ENR 1.7 to ensure that the wording relates to a pilot-conducted gross error check, as opposed to a maintenance serviceability check.

Status
