COVID-19 Exemptions for aircraft operators

4 June 2020

Over 40 Safety Risk Mitigation Plans have been received from air operators as industry looks to how they can continue to manage safety risks and ensure competency of their crew during COVID-19 restrictions.

The plans, once assessed and approved by CASA, will allow operators to use alternate procedures after the expiry of the current general exemptions put in place.

The fees for the assessment of the Safety Risk Mitigation Plans have been waived and refunds are being issued to anyone who has been charged.

We have taken a proactive approach to managing COVID-19 and the disruptions it has had on industry and will continue to take a flexible regulatory approach to alleviate pressures on Australian operators.

Operators are encouraged to contact us to discuss any issues or concerns you have so that we can effectively manage any requirements. We will continue to take both a flexible regulatory approach as well as one which ensures aviation safety is maintained.
