We're just about ready for Avalon and we've got a host of subject matter experts (SMEs) who'll be on hand at our brand-new stand at Hall 1 - 1G21 this year.

Avalon airshow biplane

Chace Eldridge, Industry Relations consultation coordinator, is one of the many new and friendly faces on deck to answer your aviation-related questions.

Starting in CASA in 2022, he's the secretariat for the Aviation Safety Advisory Panel (ASAP) and Aviation State Engagement Forum (AvSEF). He also coordinates the Technical Working Groups (TWGs) which work with CASA to provide industry's expertise and perspective on specific tasks and report directly to the ASAP.

A commercial pilot, Chace was nominated as Australian Aviation's Young Aviator of the Year last year. He has experience as a flight and theory instructor and is excited by the technological innovations in the aviation sector. He is also excited at the possible advancements and improvements this may bring to Australia, particularly in rural and remote areas.

Other SMEs on our stand will include:

National operations and standards

Anthony Lawler, Section manager, Office of Airspace Regulation

Anthony began his aviation journey as a student pilot in his late teens before joining the professional aviation ranks with Airservices Australia.

With a master's degree in Aviation Management, Anthony has been involved in the aviation industry in a professional and private capacity for 30 years and is currently finalising his commercial pilot licence as well as pursuing an instructor rating.

Dan Parsons – Senior standards officer

Dan is a self-confessed aviation and airport safety nerd. He has worked for regulators and airport operators across Australia and overseas. He has been an aerodrome inspector, airport manager, consultant and safety performance specialist. In his spare time, he is working on a PhD in wildlife hazard management and regularly writes articles on airport safety and operations on therunwaycentreline.com.

Dan's day job as an aerodromes' standards officer includes developing regulations and standards for vertiports. He is part of the team that recently published the consultation draft of Advisory Circular 139.V-01 on vertiport design and presented these standards as part of a dedicated webinar series.

Guidance, transformation and safety systems

Carl Brown – Guidance officer and team lead

Carl's involvement in aviation spans more than 33 years, including stints with the RAAF as an Aircraft Technician, BAE Systems (Saudi Arabia), Boeing Defence Australia, Australian Aerospace and Insitu Pacific.

Working at CASA since 2015, Carl was previously a senior RPAS inspector before joining our Guidance Delivery Centre in 2020.

Regulatory oversight

Peter Marsh – Flying operations inspector

Peter has over 46 years' experience as a professional pilot, with a flying career that developed from a flight instructor through to international air transport operations in a B777.

Joining CASA in 2011, his current role involves assisting CASA inspectors and operators with their transition to the new flight operations regulations.

Although most of his career involved air transport operations, Peter's true passion now is flying his Cessna 180 around Australia and meeting fellow aviators both young and old.

Robbie Simms – Flying operations inspector

Robbie started at CASA in December 2020 and is based in Perth and Darwin. He has more than 35 years' experience as a pilot in general aviation, regional aviation, domestic aviation and international aviation.
