DAME newsletter - August 2019
Date of publication:
13 September 2019
From Ganesh Anbalagan, Acting Principal Medical Officer
August was an exciting month for AvMed. We welcomed Dr Caron Jander and Dr Patricia Beresford to the team as senior medical officers. They spent most of the month in Canberra with the team being inducted into their roles in CASA. Eventually, Dr Jander will be located in Sydney and Dr Beresford in Brisbane. This means AvMed will be distributed across Australia, with Dr Liz Ryan and Dr Aparna Hegde holding up the west.
We would like to express our immense gratitude to Dr Liz Ryan, Dr Aparna Hegde and Dr David Fitzgerald for all their support to AvMed over the past six months while we were working to recruit new doctors. They have been instrumental in supporting the team and we look forward to their ongoing support into the future.
Dr Sharma will be attending the International Congress of Aviation and Space Medicine (ICASM) in Hungary this month and presenting An Antipodean view of substance use among aviation personnel. Judging by the program, it will be an eventful few days.
We look forward to seeing you all at the Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine (ASAM) in a couple of weeks.
New learning platform – AviationWorx
CASA has recently switched over to a new platform for AviationWorx. In order to use the platform, you need to register via the myCASA portal for an AviationWorx profile using the email associated with your Medical Records System (MRS) login. This will ensure you are matched to the right profile and Aviation Reference Number (ARN). Instructions on how to create a profile are below.
If you have not completed our online module, CASA update and Class 2 Medical Certification, you will need to create an account and complete the module and knowledge assessment.
If you would like to exercise the delegation to issue class 2 medical certificates on the spot, please ensure you download your transcript following completion and send a copy of it to our DAME liaison at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will then respond with the final steps to activate that access for you in MRS.
Create a myCASA profile
- Go to the Online services section on the CASA website.
- Click on myCASA portal.
- Create an account using the email account associated with your DAME registration or MRS login. This will ensure that your account is linked to your ARN.
- Click on AviationWorx to access eLearning.
- Click on Goals Catalogue to find the Aviation Medical course. It will be added to your goal centre in your profile dashboard.
- Click on the module to launch.
Once you’ve completed the module and the knowledge assessment, you will be able to download a transcript of your course.
If you get stuck there are also AviationWorx User Guides available through the portal. These will show you how to navigate through the dashboard and access certificates and your training transcript.
